Volleyball Atlanta Juniors Information

Juniors

What is Juniors?

Juniors, or more correctly, USAV junior olympic volleyball is the grass roots development of young volleyball players through local and regional junior volleyball clubs. Ages range from 8-18, and play is from November, after the end of the high school season, through April of each year. The majority of junior's players are girls, but in areas where interest exists, boys also play junior volleyball. Playing and coaching junior volleyball requires a committed player and coach, with practices upwards of 3 times a week and tournaments several weekends every month. Junior volleyball is recommended to players who love the sport, who would like to excel and commit to the sport, and enjoy being part of a team sport environment. Volleyball Atlanta does not offer a Juniors program, having spun off the now very succeessful Atlanta Juniors program several years ago. We are currently working very closely with Northlake Kaepa Volleyball Club and encourage you to look into their website for more information. There are many fine programs in Altanta now, please check them out via the links below.

What is Developmental League?

For girls ages 10 to 14 and just getting interested in volleyball, we offer a Developmental League in the winter each year. It does not require the skill or committment of club programs, but allows the girls to get proper instruction, and hopefully determine whether volleyball is a sport they wish to pursue. Our program has been held Sunday afternoons at Oglethorpe University in Brookhaven the last few years, very convenient to many in the Atlanta area. The link on the menu will give more detailed info for the upcoming league, the next one will be starting around the end of February 2004.

What is USAV?

USA Volleyball is the governing body of junior and adult volleyball in the United States. The USAV also governs our Olympic and National teams. Rules for USAV volleyball are slightly different than High School and Collegiate volleyball, but differ mostly on protocol rather than actual sport technical rules.
