Court Improvements:
The major push this year (thanks
to the Sand Committee, Taz, Scott and others who have helped!)
is to get more sand and build the wall/border on the Arcadia Street
side to keep the sand on the courts and improve safety. Some background
is informative: This wall is actually part of the original John
Howell Park plans designed in 1994 through a partnership formalized
in 1988 when VBAtl signed an agreement with the VaHighlands Civic
Association to operate and maintain the sand courts. VBAtl originally
built the courts through sweat and donations starting in 1981
when the land was still owned by the GaDOT.
We hope that your dues and
some fund-raising tournaments this summer will help us achieve
this goal!

VBA's
SAND COURTS in Virginia-Highlands:
Playing on the courts requires
being a VBA member and those dues are now past due (the year runs
April to April). Your dues go to a lot of things, but most importantly
to pay for the storage garage, blah, blah, blah, you know the
story, it's not cheap to do all we do! Anyway, VBA is one of the
three organizations that formally adopted, developed, and maintains
John
Howell Park (visit the website) under the auspices of the
City of Atlanta Parks Department. We don't want to risk losing
all that's been done by apathy or being cheap.
