Volleyball Atlanta was established in 1979 by seven avid volleyball players in the Atlanta area.   Our founders were the leaders in developing the sport of volleyball in Atlanta.  They came to an agreement with the City of Atlanta and John Howell Park for the installation of sand courts.  This quickly became the hub of volleyball in the area.   Since then, we have developed an avid adult program, spawned several successful juniors programs, and grown Volleyball in Atlanta through our programs, tournaments, leagues, and our member's continued dedication to the sport with other organizations.  Annually, members from VBA volunteer their time to help others learn the sport by running clinics for local middle and high school aged kids in the Metro Atlanta Area, and organize the Georgia Special Olympics Summer Games at Emory, and have organized the Georgia State Games summer tournament every year of it's operation.

During the Olympics in 1996, Volleyball Atlanta was the main support for the volleyball events for the Atlanta Committee for the Olympic Games. We supplied volunteers from floor sweepers to event planners. Our goal to help the sport of volleyball can still be found at the root of all aspects of the sport in Atlanta.
