Volleyball Atlanta was established in 1980 by seven
avid volleyball players in the Atlanta area. Our 'forefathers'
were the leaders in developing the sport of volleyball in Atlanta.
They came to an agreement with the City of Atlanta and John Howell
Park for the installation of sand courts. This quickly became
the hub of volleyball in the area. Since then, we have
developed an avid adult program, spawned a successful juniors program,
and grown Volleyball Atlanta from the seven initial members to a
membership of almost 200. Annually, members from VBA volunteer
their time to help others learn the sport by running clinics for
local middle and high school aged kids in the Metro Atlanta Area.
During the Olympics in 1996, Volleyball Atlanta was
the main support for the volleyball events for the Atlanta Committee
for the Olympic Games. We supplied volunteers from floor sweepers
to event planners. Our goal to help the sport of volleyball can
be seen in all aspects of the sport in Atlanta.
